A few months after Zilliqa launched on mainnet, it started the process of transitioning its ERC-20 ZIL tokens over to its Zilliqa mainnet equivalent. The token swap process lasted several months, ending on Feb. 15, 2020. Several exchanges, including Binance, KuCoin, OKEx, Huobi, CoinHako, Upbit, and Bitthumb, facilitate the swap.
Following the deadline, Zilliqa reported that exchanges successfully swapped ~98.3% of the 12.6 billion ERC-20 ZIL. The leftover ERC-20 tokens, totaling over 213 million ZIL or 1.02% of the max 21 million supply, remained unswapped and would be frozen.
On Jun. 16, 2020, Zilliqa said it is considering potential solutions for users still holding their now frozen ERC-20 ZIL. According to the team, it might be possible to coordinate with an exchange or custodial wallet who could facilitate an exchange to mainnet ZIL post-token swap deadline. Zilliqa plans to identify a partner, but the process might take several months. More details should be available towards the end of 2020.
