What is the supply of BAT?

Basic Attention Token has a maximum total supply of 1.5 billion. This number cannot be increased without switching to a new token smart contract. The entire supply is currently in circulation. 

A total of 1 billion BAT tokens were sold to investors during the ICO held in 2017. Another 200 million tokens were locked in a development pool, while 300 million BAT were reserved for the User Growth Pool (UGP). By November 2020, both the development pool and UGP were almost empty. 

What is the token distribution?

BAT's total supply is 1.5 billion tokens, all created at launch and allocated as follows:

• 66.66% was allocated to investors
• 20% was allocated to a User Growth Pool and are being used to incentivize users to participate in the BAT ecosystem
• 4.42% was allocated to the Developer pool
• 8.92% was allocated to the Development Pool and locked for 180 days, before being entirely released.

User Growth Pool

User growth fund is used to incentivize users to participate in the BAT ecosystem. 

• A 300 million endowment is for early adopters of Brave and the BAT at up to 5 BAT/user.
• BAT received as a reward can only be used within the BAT ecosystem for value added services. 
• Unused BAT after 6 months will be sent back to the user growth fund which can then be used for new users.
• Existing Brave users can get tokens by updating their app and verifying phone number. 
• No new tokens will be created once the user growth pool is exhausted.
